DAY 1
EMBARK AT MUNGER
Arrive at Munger, one of the largest and the most industrialized cities of Bihar. This would be followed by boarding the RV Bengal Ganga cruise ship in the noon in this hub of railway, gun, tobacco and dairy product manufacturing. The night is meant for relaxation.
DAY 2
SAIL MUNGER – SULTANGANJ – BHAGALPUR
Following breakfast, we depart to Bihar School of Yoga founded by Satyananda Saraswati. Once you return, we sail towards Bhagalpur via Sultanganj. Sultanganj houses 2 great granite rocks - crowned by a mosque and a 16th century Ajgaibinath Shiva Temple. It is associated with the story of River Ganga being seized by sage Jahnu’s curse.
DAY 3
SAIL BHAGALPUR – BATESHWARSTHAN – SAMTAGHAT
The next morning, we sail to Bateshwarsthan. Post breakfast, we hop on to jeeps/cars to visit the 8th century ruins of Vikramshila University established by King Dharampala. This was one of the most important centers of Buddhist learning in India, besides Nalanda University. After returning to the ship, we sail towards Samtaghat and moor for the night.
DAY 4
SAIL SAMTAGHAT – FARAKKA – JANGIPUR
We set off towards the Farakka Barrage, which regulates the flow of the Ganges into Bangladesh. Around the noon, we cross the Farakka Lock Gate. We then pass through the connecting Feeder Canal (known for its beautiful birds) to the Bhagirathi-Hooghly River (the Lower Ganges) and eventually head to Jangipur.
DAY 5
SAIL JANGIPUR – MURSHIDABAD
On the 5th day, we start our journey for Murshidabad and explore the Hazarduari Palace Museum post lunch. Commissioned by Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah, it reflects the Greek “Doric†architectural style. Facing an enchanting Imambara, the museum houses a wide collection of antiques. We then tread back to the ship through the market.
DAY 6
SAIL MURSHIDABAD – MATIARI
Post breakfast, we ride the tonga to visit Katra Mosque, Murshidabad’s oldest mosque. It was built by its first Nawab, Nawab Murshid Quli Khan. We ride our way back to the jetty and proceed towards Matiari, sailing past Plassey – the site of 1757 battle. Here Robert Clive defeated the Nawab, establishing the company’s rule in India.
DAY 7

We start the morning by visiting Matiari, a village which is famous for its brass & copper work. You can pick a few souvenirs for your folks here. Upon returning to the ship, we move to Kalna. It houses temples - Nabakailas and Pratapeshwar - inspired by architectural elements of mosques. We sail further to Bandel at night.
DAY 8
SAIL KALNA – KOLKATA
After cruising through the vast countryside of Bengal, we sail towards Kolkata. It harbours numerous remnants of European settlers. An Orientation Tour takes place post lunch. It explores the city’s landmarks such as Writer’s Building, High Court, Raj Bhawan, Town Hall and the Reserve Bank of India. We then drop by at St. John’s Church and Victoria Memorial.
DAY 9
DEPARTURE FROM KOLKATA
After a healthy breakfast, we bid adieu to this journey. You disembark the ship and are transferred to the airport for your flight or depart to your onward destination.
